At Locavore Market Garden, we grow a wide variety of specialty produce utilizing organic growing methods. Our garden is small (currently less than 1/4 acre), but planted very intensively for large yields. Our farm is inspired by the techniques made famous within the sustainable agriculture community by Jean-Martin Fortier in his book "The Market Gardener". This style of farming is also known as SPIN farming--SPIN stands for s-mall p-lot in-tensive.
Located just outside of little Washington in Beaufort County, NC, we serve residents in Greenville & the surrounding areas via our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program and home delivery service. You can also find us down on the coast on Saturday mornings at the Olde Beaufort Farmers' Market.
We (Titus and Angela) met while studying at East Carolina University where we discovered our mutual interest in local foods. Shortly after getting married, we started our first agricultural enterprise, Bowie Woods Garden. The next year we partnered with other local growers to form Locavore Market, an online farmers market and delivery service.
After five years running Locavore Market, we made the decision to leave our home in Ayden to pursue an opportunity for Titus to manage an organic vegetable farm in Carteret County. After a year down east, we decided it was time to move back closer to home & start our own market garden. In early 2016, we bought an old farmstead outside of Washington and Locavore Market Garden was born.
It is our mission to support the growth of a sustainable, local food system. We want to create a network of residents and local farmers. By forming this network, we intend to create a viable, year-round market for local farm products. We hope more residents are encouraged by the variety and convenience we offer to buy their food locally.
